Can vital signs be monitored remotely?

Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) can be used to monitor vital signs.

Vital signs, along with other forms of health data, including blood pressure, heart rate, and electrocardiograms, can be collected using Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM). The devices automatically transmit the data to the healthcare provider.

Some common examples of Remote Patient Monitoring devices include blood pressure monitors, weight scales, pulse oximeters, and glucose meters. These devices can be either cellular or Bluetooth enabled

The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) Manual states that devices used for RPM services must be “medical devices” as that term is defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the Food, Drug & Cosmetics Act (FD&C Act).
